Judging books by their covers,
Stone Garden OK, Ill admit it: Im a sucker for long grass. I used to dream of living in a house where, just outside, blades would grow wild and long, the kind of grass that cools your feet no matter how hot it is outside because sunlight rarely reaches the soil. At one point, when I was fifteen, I thought of redoing my bedroom with a mural on all four sides, and it would be like you were outside in the middle of the untamed verdant mane. I even had it in mind to have actual grass in beds on the floor, laid out so that I would have to walk a path around them to get to my bed or my desk. Alas, it never came to pass. But my fictional house is still the place that comes to mind when I think of where Id like to live in the future. And in the meantime, theres this cover. How tranquil, how subtle everything is here. I love how the title is partially obscured, how the grass is blurry in the foreground, how the bee is just doing its thing. And the balance is perfect. Look how large the title is, and yet the authors name, despite being so much smaller, is just as prominent because of its color and placement. This is a designer unafraid of breaking convention. Kudos to both the designer and the publisher who let the cover go through. Judgment: Check out the games over at Orisinal. Thats the kind of mood this cover puts me in.
