My apologies: for the next couple of
days, I’m setting this essay
aside. After quite some time, my director and I had a long talk
about whether my continuing as a volunteer tutor at the jail
is a good idea. It’s a question that is now in my hands.
If I continue there, I will have to look past some aspects
of life at the jail with which I don’t agree. As my friend said,
I can be a tutor or an activist, but I can’t be both.
